Support for Social Service Agencies
The Community Foundation of Greenville serves as Trustee of the Walter Johnson Trust overseeing the administration and allocation of funds. The income from this Trust supports staff development for social service agencies and Foundation seminars. Grants are awarded to 501(c)(3) social service agencies that serve the citizens of Greenville County. An agency may apply only once per year for a Walter Johnson Trust Grant.
Application opens: January 1, 2023
Application deadline: January 31, 2023
Grant Awards generally range from $500 – $2,500
Grant Awards will be announced by the end of February 2023
We encourage grant proposals for:
- Specific staff training programs at an established time and date
- Training that will enhance the internal stability of the organization
- Outside or in-house training/seminars

Walter Johnson Trust Grant Application
Application can be previewed before the application opens on January 1st.
Proposal Process:
We will review each application and consider all applicants meeting the Walter Johnson Trust criteria. The Foundation President and Director of Community Impact – Grants and Scholarships will review applications and make recommendations to the Board of Directors, which has the final authority to approve or deny any grant request. If awarded, a report on funded training opportunities must be provided to the Foundation within 30 days of the conclusion of training.
