President’s Message – Winter 2019
Bob Morris, president of the Community Foundation since 1999, shares a quarterly message with the community.
Earlier this year, the Margaret Linder Southern Endowment Fund hit a major milestone by surpassing $2 million in distributions. To date, it has made grants to twenty-two local organizations. Mrs. Southern put a plan in place with us, her investment advisor, and attorney in 2004 to articulate her charitable intentions. Her bequest in 2012 created a generous endowment fund to make annual gifts to the Greenville Humane Society and charities that support early childhood education and programs for special needs children and youth. Mrs. Southern is impacting the lives of thousands of families she had never met.
In January, our Board also approved Capacity Building Grants to eleven local nonprofit organizations and we welcomed five new community leaders to the Community Foundation’s Board of Directors. By sharing their time and professional expertise, our board members help us achieve the immediate and long-term strategic goals of the Foundation.
Lastly, I want to remind you to visit our new microsite, Giving Matters, at greenvillejournal.com/giving-matters or invite you to read the featured story in the Greenville Journal each month. The stories highlight the impact of philanthropy in the local community and remind readers of how the Community Foundation is linking philanthropic leadership, charitable resources, and civic involvement with needs and opportunities in the community.
Thank you for your continued interest and investment in our work.
