Ruth Alexander Nicholson Award 2009

Greenville Women Giving is the 2009 recipient of the Ruth Alexander Nicholson Award from the Community Foundation.  This award is the highest honor we present each year and is a tribute to the innovation and leadership that has made Greenville Women Giving a major donor to the Greenville nonprofit community.

Greenville Women Giving and its members were recognized on November 12th at the Donor Reception sponsored by the Community Foundation.

Under the joint leadership of Harriet Goldsmith, Frances Ellison, and Sue Priester, the organization has grown from three members to over 350 as they begin their fourth year.  This award recognizes all the members of Greenville Women Giving and the power of collective giving to support worthy causes in our community.

A gift by will from Jean Harris Knight to the Community Foundation provided funds to support the formation of Greenville Women Giving with matching contributions totaling $150,000.  That gift has been multiplied by the vision and effort of Greenvilleís women who have donated $854,000 to charities in Greenville County in just three years.  We believe that Greenville Women Giving is one of the most significant initiatives ever underwritten by the Community Foundation.  We salute you!
