Community Enrichment Grants Grant Making Philosophy

The Community Foundation uses income from its unrestricted endowments to make grants to charitable initiatives in Greenville County.

In addition, the Foundation awards grants on a competitive basis to 501(c) (3) charitable organizations located within or offering services to the citizens of Greenville County, South Carolina on an annual basis.

The Community Foundation has developed the following priorities for awarding Community Enrichment Grants:

  • The Foundation will give highest priority to “seed” projects, which can serve as a catalyst for securing funds from other sources to address community-wide issues.
  • The Foundation will review each request carefully to ensure that projects do not overlap or duplicate existing agencies or services.
  • The Foundation will thoroughly review an organization’s ability to succeed in the project by evaluating its program budget, staff competencies and previous record of achievement.
  • The Foundation looks for evidence of careful planning and the proposed method of program evaluation.
  • The Foundation does not fund general operating expenses or existing debts.
  • The Foundation will give low priority to capital projects including renovation and equipment purchases.
  • The Foundation does not make direct grants to individuals.
  • The Foundation does not make multiple year grants.
