Community Enrichment Grants are funded by income from the Community Foundation's unrestricted endowments and donor contributions.

Grants are awarded annually on a competitive basis to 501(c)(3) charitable organizations that are located within or that offer services to the citizens of Greenville County, South Carolina.  These grants support community-based projects where a modest grant can make a meaningful and sustained difference in the quality of life of Greenville's citizens.  Charitable organizations are limited to one Community Enrichment Grant per year.

Application deadline:  March 5, 2010 at 4:00 pm

We encourage grant proposals that:

  • propose practical solutions to community problems
  • promote cooperation among agencies without duplicating services
  • use modest funds to make a significant impact
  • address prevention as well as remediation
  • make use of matching funds
  • strengthen an agency's effectiveness and stability
  • generate community support, both professional and volunteer
  • state project objectives in measurable terms.

The Community Foundation will follow these guidelines in evaluating grants:

  • We will not make grants to individuals.
  • We will make grants for capacity building.
  • We will give low priority to capital fund projects.
  • We will review each request carefully to ensure that projects do not overlap or duplicate existing agencies or services.
  • We will thoroughly review the requesting organization’s ability to succeed in the project, including evaluation of its budget, Board of Directors, staffing capability and experience.
  • We will make post-grant evaluations to determine the difference made in the community by the funded project.
