2009 Community Enrichment Grants

$137,200 awarded to 20 charitable organizations

Arts and Humanities Programs:  $14,130

  • Metropolitan Arts Council - $4,160 to support the Smart ARTS Project, an arts integration program in Greenville County Title 1 schools.
  • Children’s Museum of the Upstate, Inc. - $9,970 to provide funding for Title 1 students in Greenville County to attend the museum.

Education Programs:  $15,500

  • Greater Greenville Chamber of Commerce Foundation, Inc. - $7,500 for the expansion of the Carolina First Center to provide training and support for Greenville County Schools.
  • Project Hope Foundation - $8,000 for organizational capacity building which includes the purchase of a new computer server and software.

Health Programs:  $23,000

  • Cancer Society of Greenville County - $10,000 for life-saving chemotherapy and pain relief medications for local cancer patients.
  • Greenville Free Medical Clinic - $7,000 for dental treatments and preventive services for low-income individuals without dental insurance.
  • Taylors Free Medical Clinic - $6,000 for pharmaceutical expenses for those who are poor, homeless or have no access to affordable insurance.

Social Services Programs:  $84,570

  • A Child’s Haven - $6,500 to purchase 9 laptop computers for lead clinical staff and for technical support.
  • Family Connection of S.C., Inc. - $10,000 for a parent support and education series on autism.
  • Gateway House, Inc. - $8,000 for a comprehensive health and wellness program for seriously mentally ill participants enrolled at Gateway House.
  • Girls on the Run - $6,760 to provide funding for the Crossroads Group Home for Adolescent Females to participate in the “Girls on Track” program.
  • Greenville County Recreation Department - $2,500 for the Brutontown Outdoor Adventures in Leadership program to engage youth as citizens and leaders.
  • Greenville Literacy Association, Inc. - $8,000 to provide current and relevant reading resources for the Adult Basic Education and pre-GED program.
  • Harvest Hope Food Bank - $3,500 to purchase equipment to support the Mobile Food Pantry program and educate current and future clients about the services that Harvest Hope provides.
  • Miracle Hill Ministries - $7,500 to upgrade the computer lab for the Boys Shelter “homebound” school.
  • Pendleton Place - $10,000 for operational support to offset program cuts resulting from reduced state funding and increased community needs.
  • Pleasant Valley Connection - $5,000 for the Senior Citizen Fitness program that promotes healthy diets, healthy lifestyles, and socialization for seniors.
  • Sterling Hope Center - $5,000 to provide a summer camp enrichment program to serve at-risk children who are ages 5-12.
  • Triune Mercy Center - $5,000 to provide one year of continued recovery support and housing and employment counseling that enables participants to become self-sustaining.
  • YouthBASE - $6,810 for a mentoring program for children that includes a mock town environment in which each child has a job/position and real responsibility for the town’s businesses and management.
